Saturday, Northwich to buy new cat bowls from the charity shops, 6 Portmeirion rip offs for 99p did the trick. I turned down three exquisite gold edged bowls. Someone has enough ideas above his station without eating off gold plated platters, thank you. I then did the bird walk around Marbury, saw the tawny owl (think large feathered cat) but not the bittern, well worth the walk. Found out about my black swan; he was part of a breeding pair but his missus froze to death last year trying to fledge a late brood, sadly he's not likely to find a new gal round here.

Today was Manchester for Chinese New Year with [livejournal.com profile] ealdgyth and husband. I drove to Navigation Road then got the tram, parking in town is such a bind. Loads of stall selling tat and food and fairground attractions, we had a fine time. Tat was bought, food was eaten, sights, sounds, smells appreciated.
We then went into the Manchester Art Gallery to see the new Grayson Perry acquisition. Loved it, but then I adore his work, craft and art and humour combined, he hits all my hot spots. http://www.manchestergalleries.org/whats-on/exhibitions/index.php?itemID=79 I also became absorbed by Adolphe Valette and his beautiful expressionist paintings of smog and smoke and the Irwell. http://www.manchestergalleries.org/whats-on/permanent-galleries/modern-galleries/lowry-and-valette/
After coffee and moon buns to bring home, it was a good weekend.

Photos of the new Grayson Perry acquisition, 'Jane Austen in E17' under the cut (it was a gift to the gallery, lucky ducks to have such a generous benefactor).

Technically, it is out this world. A ceramic that size is really hard to start with and the intaglio is just flawless, the confidence and fluidity of the lines is amazing. And that's before I start on the wit and all the other layers of meaning.

I like Grayson Perry, can you tell?

It was funded by ArtFund.

Good for them. We were talking to one of the staff while filling out the gift aid envelope, they are feeling particularly impoverished at the moment.

I could have spent an hour absorbing the Valette's but that gallery was crowded with kids and a hands-on exhibit of Chinese pottery.

I did very little walking during November/December, getting back into it. Though I only managed 2 lunchtime walks last week, the weather was vile. Made up for it at the weekend.

That's lovely. I don't like all of his work, but this piece is wonderful.
