I just yelled at the TV screen - the announcer said Wacky Races started because it was obvious that they were never going to catch that pigeon when every fule knoe that Catch That Pigeon was a spin off from Wacky Races.

How sad am I?

Are you as annoyed as I am about the placing of Betty Boop? Ought to be a LOT higher on any rational list.

Oh, yes, I'm sadly wondering how far down Popeye and Felix The Cat will be?

Well, we got the Felix answer pretty quickly.

I really wish I had the energy to watch this but it goes on way past my planned bed time and I really think I can't rant properly tonight.

Sue's top ten fav. animaton, in no particular order.

1. Top Cat
2. Marine Boy
3. Gatchaman
4. Heroic Legend of Arislan
5. The Last Unicorn
6. The Wombles
7. The Magic Roundabout (but only the original, at teatime and when Zebedee said 'Time for bed' you went.
8. The Clangers
9. The Snowman
10. Andy Pandy

But I haven't included Thunderbirds! Or Noggin the Nog! Or Akira! Or The Woodentops. Hm, choosing ten was a bit hard.

Special mention to What's Opra Doc and the Tom and Jerry to Rhapsody In Blue.

Mouse in Manhattan, thank you. I can never remember it's name.

Unfortunately they showed What's Opera Doc just before Sparticus and the Sparticus Theme is about the first six notes of The Valkiries so we spent the whole sad "I'm Sparticus and so's my wife" bit singing "kill the christians, kill the christians..."

Wot...

no Pink Panther.... I have to agree though - ABSOLUTELY NO points for proper research.. Catch That Pgeon was completely derivative.... Me sad too..

Fritz the Cat, wahoo!
I found it in the kids section of a video store, the lad behind the counter didn't understand why I found it so funny.

Pink Panther was in there at about nintey something.

Aw, Ivor the Engine - Idrys the Dragon and Jones the Steam!
Love Oliver Postgate.

Is this the only Welsh animation? (oops, no, I'm forgetting SuperTed)

Don't know if you follow much fanfic, but someone just wrote a Buffy / Noggin the Nog crossover, Noggin and the Vampire, which is quite fun. Several other Postgate series are mentioned too:

Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 4
Chapter 5

There might just happen to be the odd bit of fanfic on my hard drive...

I'm sort of doing an experiment to see how much slash it takes for a hard drive to go into melt down (two laptops have bit the dust thus far, the iBook seems to be a bit more robust).

Well, we now have reason to presume, after Lieutenant Green's fan-service sleep-over, that Captain Scarlet's underwear is scarlet.

But an hour trapped in an elevator with Destiny Angel? Obviously the Mysterons fixed more than anyone's realised.

(Maybe they decided that puppets aren't animation, which makes a sort of sense, I guess.)

But SuperTed wasn't very good at all.

Wow, no Jerry Anderson at all, very weird.
Tom and Jerry is No2. so that leaves The Simpsons at one but no Anderson at all.

Very odd.

No Wombles, no Clangers, no Watch With Mother, no Paddington, no Andersons, I see a pattern here.

Can you say stop motion, boys and girls?
Joe Public's definition of a cartoon is different to mine.

Still, off to bed, up at 6.50am and still full of stinky cold.

cartoons are drawn, yes. Animation is a broader term.
