To celebrate the splendid news re Boneland, we, [livejournal.com profile] alicephilippa [livejournal.com profile] johnrw and [livejournal.com profile] asphodeline and I, went for a walk on Th'Edge.

Bit of a rocky start; my address book has [livejournal.com profile] johnrw and [livejournal.com profile] asphodeline at number 10, but no reply and it just didn't feel like a fannish house (not enough books) No, they live at number 19, it's only a short road, I found them by the fannish tat and books visible from the road.

Cool and sunny, it was good walking weather so the car park was heaving.
We walked up the elf track to the Goldenstone, then up to Stormy Point, down into The Devil's Grave (now blocked off, looks like subsidence has affected it) [livejournal.com profile] johnrw then went back to the car but the three mad women walked along to Castle Rock then back via The Wizhard's Well and, of course, Holy Well.

Back to the car park via The Beacon, my idea of a little bonfire was vetoed. Pooie. We stopped in the car park for an ice cream (thank you,[livejournal.com profile] asphodeline) and to eat our sarnies. Then back to [livejournal.com profile] johnrw and [livejournal.com profile] asphodeline's for tea and affectionate cats. Good afternoon's walk in good company.

Photo's under the cut.

The Wizhard's Well

Wizhard's Well face and inscription, it's a folly carved, if I recall, by Alan Garner's great grandad for Lord Winstanley (as are the standing stones, Lord Winstanley thought The Edge needed them).
"Drink of this and take thy fill for the water falls by the wizhard's will"

A rather over exposed [livejournal.com profile] alicephilippa at The Holy Well which features so prominently in The Moon of Gomrath.

The Holy Well, my favourite, most personal place on Th'Edge.
