Congratulations! You're well above average when it comes to your knowledge of English grammar, history, and literature. You may have missed a few questions, but if you keep your studies up and stay away from genre fiction, we'll have you ready for Stanford in no time! Who knows, we just might be reading your columns in Talk of the Town a few years from now.

But the art is from Strangers in Paradise by Terry Moore, can I have an exta point for knowing that?

What, the comics artist? That's a bit apples and oranges, isn't it?

The thing I find taking in Alma-Tadema's work is his completely ravishing way with painting marble. He was unexcelled at it, and knew it. I was particularly struck by this at the old Getty museum, which had in its collection both a red marble Roman satyr, and an Alma-Tadema painting that includes it. He got that marble to the life. The sad thing about the new Getty and the whole project of rehousing the collection is that only the ancient collection will remain at the old Roman villa, whereas relatively contemporary art such as the Alma-Tadema (and their medieval collection) will all be at the new place, so one will never again be able to see the two pieces in close proximity.
