Mm, I love QI and I'd kill to be at a dinner party with Stepehn Fry.

Max is poorly puss.
He came in on Tuesday with a little blood round his mouth and sat licking his chops for over an hour. I assumed cat fight as there was all manner of yowling going on in the back entry.

But he went off his food and I found bloody drool all over my bed where he had slept. Nice.

He goes to the food bowl, obviously very hungry but can't eat. So my chief suspicions were broken jaw (nope, would let me pet him round the jaw) broken tooth (nope, managed to pry the Teeth of Doom open and they were okay) obstruction in mouth (nope, all clear there)

So we went to the vet.

He's got a seriously lacerated tongue. Heaven knows how he managed that. Either he got socked in the gob with a sharp paw, licked something very sharp like a tin or bit it. My money is on that he bit it himself.

Ow!

So £70 later (antibiotic injection, pain killing injection, 5 days oral antibiotics and his Frontline flea treatments for 6 months) we go home.
I am *so* looking forward to trying to get those antibiotics down him. Yes, I have a pill gun. As Mr Pratchett pointed out, with one hand you hold cat, with another you pry open Teeth of Doom, with your third hand you stuff tablet down already sore mouth.

If he hospitalises me again, I will not be chuffed.

It takes a certain kind of person to care for a cat like Max. I'm not sure if the correct word is 'superhuman' or 'foolhardy'...

PS. Are you going to Novacon? Need a roomshare?

Mad, I think, is the work you are looking for.

I'm afraid I have a sharer for Novacon (I saw your request the other day but didn't reply as I always share with Laura Wheatley at Novacon, sort of a tradition now) sorry.

Poor poor Max. (And poor Foxie too, of course.) Our childhood cat came home the loser of a kitty brawl and needed stitches. Never a fun thing, medicating a cat. I hope you both come out of this incident intact. *hugs*

I'm very used to it.
Spookie spent 20 years of his 22 year long life beating the living daylights out of anything which moved. Which meant, of course, many trips to the vet, abscesses, cuts, ears looking like someone had taken pinking shears to them etc etc.
But Spooks was very cool about having Mummy doctor him. Max is much more touchy and much more likely to fight back.

He seems a better today, even with the vet's painkiller, he's salivating less, eating more, the mouth heals very quickly.

If I can't get the pills down him, he will have to go to the vet's each day for injections. It's only just up the road.

He's just gone out to cause mayhem in Northwich.

FF, off to bed herself.

Poor little kitty!! I'd bet on the tin, they are so irrestible to cats and dogs. Our collie was forever getting her long snout stuck in tin cans...lol

Yes, but think of all the stories you won't be able to tell the next time you're MC'ing a masquerade...

Flynn got a collared dove the other day. Clean kill, bite to the back of the neck. But it died wings outstretched and he couldn't get it in through the catflap, despite his best efforts.

He has to go to the vets next week to have his teeth cleaned, under gas.

What with the fireworks, the decorating upstairs and the long long saga of the gasmen (haven't written that up yet, but then, they haven't filled in the hole yet, either), he is Not A Happy Kitty.

That tongue thing happened to Samrtie (Mum and Dad's rescue cat). It's not very nice at all. Poor Max. He obviously tried to capture a hedgehog beanue baby.
