Last week the car cost me £360 for a service, mot, two new tyres and work on the suspension (I thought it was a bit springy).
Friday the TV exploded, well, went bang - it was 15 years old.
Sunday I opened the washing machine door and it came off in my hand! Washing machine was even older than the TV - when I buy something, I keep it.

So I've ordered a new washing machine and went and bought a new TV.
I got a bigger TV than I thought I could (28' - they don't make 24' screens anymore) by getting a 'managers special' ie. one with a fault - the fault in this case is that the programmes are in strange places (Channel 4 is on channel 7) and you can't re-set them to where they should be. Not really an issue, they all run consecutively, just not in the order you'd expect. I can live with it and it's a better tv than I could otherwise have afforded.

So the credit card is in shock but it's only money.

And I never heard back from the job agency about the interview last week.
Not that I'm chasing them, it really was too far away, all down winding country roads, v. picturesque in summer, bit of a bugger in winter. I really rather find something closer to home. But they might have let me know. Sods.

Congrats in the new telly. Just don't put a penguin on top of it :)

Won't be a problem if you add a Cable / Freeview box or whatever and use that to tune.

Well they do say bad things happen in threes (although if you count the job I suppose that's four - and I hope you gave the agency what for for not letting you know what was going on!). Our lives are almost parallel at the moment - I've just put 2 new tyres on my car because it's being MOT'd this coming Friday and I want it to pass, and today I had a new washing machine delivered - the door on the old (i.e. 18 years)one didn't come off in my hand but the door seal was going so every time I used it a puddle of water would appear on the floor in front of it. I can get almost twice as much washing into the new machine - therefore if I only have to do half as many loads, does this mean the machine will last twice as long? :-)

well, hopefully that's used up all your bad luck for the year and things will be better from now on. And as you say, these things had earned their keep. That's definitely the way to go, run 'em into the ground. I've never understood folks that upgrade every couple of years just because there's a new model out.
And I'm married to one of 'em!

Ouch, ouch, ouch!

Sorry to hear about all the things gone wrong, and I hope it all comes out for the best.
