Dinner party weekend.
Mar. 1st, 2015 09:50 pmThat was a pleasant weekend.
Walked into town on Saturday morning to have coffee with Serena and John, then drove down to Cambridge for a dinner party.
Went for another wee walk before dinner, round a nature reserve then across Coldham's Common, where several teams of men and women were playing what looked very much like rugby with a frisbee. Looked like a lot of fun, but too much running about for me these days.
We had a Russian themed dinner, starting with blinis and salmon and caviar then Stroganoff and a beautiful fish stew with sauerkraut (which is *much* improved by slow cooking and much fish, it was very good) and made by the talented Phil. Desert was a delightful Napoleon Mille-feuille by
la_marquise_de_, an impressive edifice of sugar and cream and pastry.
We were entertained by the cats and utterly charmed by the newest edition, the lovely lady Telzey, who loves being the centre of attention.
I managed to leave my current book behind so I have treated myself to reading 'Among Others' by Jo Walton, which have been saving for a rainy day (I do that with books I really like). I bought it when it came out, lent it to someone, I've forgotten who, and found another copy in a charity shop recently.
Good food, good wine, good company.
Drove home today, Max is being very cuddly, but then, it is still cold.
