14.7 miles. My tosies hurtsies.
Mar. 9th, 2014 05:21 pmAs threatened, I walked to Davenports Tea Rooms for lunch.

Glorious sunny day, cool still in the woods and by the canal but glorious this afternoon.
I saw water fowl various, a cat superior, a brief hare, an impressive lady toad, bees numerous and busy, a single butterfly and loads of dogs of varying degrees of cuteness.
Easy, if muddy, walk, along the tow path most of the way. The two sections I was worried about (the two canal tunnels) had their public footpaths clearly marked and besides, the ventilation shafts are good pointers of the way.
Took me the whole of The Archers and Desert Island Discs and a bit of Just a Minute to get there at about 12.10, which was good, the place was heaving by the time I left just after 13.00. I had chicken and choritzo pie with salad, a pot of tea (duh) and a slice of vanilla and malteser cake. It was all very good. I bought a Black Bomber (strong cheddar from Snowdonia Cheesery, not that I didn't buy three truckles of Cheshire yesterday, I should have taken the slightly bigger back pack with the chest strap, the little Gelert one was feeling a bit heavy on the way home. Emergency Magnum ice cream at Anderton Boat Lift.
Now my feet hurt and I need a bath, but it was a good day and I will be doing that again, there are various ways to shorten the walk (parking in town or at Anderton would do it) so this is one I will do again and may take others too (consider yourselves forewarned).
