Cripes, I'm tired!
Oct. 7th, 2012 06:30 pmI drove down to Wyre Valley, Friday, did a steep, steep walk up to the Bread and Cheese stones in Llandogo. It was steep, and wet, with soggy leaves under foot. And more steep. Then down by Cleddon Falls back to the village. I was mighty glad of the thumbstick, I'd have gone arse over tit at least twice without it.
About 5pm I drove over to St Briavels and made use of the Youth Hostel showers. The evening spent chatting with friends and a visit to The George, the local pub.
All the time, it was piddling down, but Saturday dawned crisp and clear. I didn't sleep very well on Friday night, despite being tired, you know how it can be in a strange bed. The bunks are comfy enough but the castle brings out everyone's allergies; there is either damp or mold then which seems to affect us all.
The village sporting pavilion was having a farmers market, I bought a sausage roll and a pack of delicious Sweet Chilli Sausages from http://www.cowshillfarm.co.uk/ and very good they were too. Also some local cider, which I'm just having a glass of and some cookies from http://www.mrsmulfordsbakes.co.uk/.
Spent most of the afternoon sitting in the sun outside the castle sewing and freaking out the tourists (I was in my Civil War kit).
The evening feast was great fun, the cook was organised enough to be good but not so organised as to make us redundant. Carrots were chopped (and after the infamous 'Gytha and the 30lbs of unused carrots incident', they can consider themselves lucky) including authentic purple ones which dyed my hands and all about me purple. There was flat bread and chicken thighs/legs, carrots with lemon and orange, pease pottage, beef and oyster pie, stuffed apricots, carved ham with mustard sauce and more, three full removes plus entertainment. One lad got dressed up by his girlfriend in a green frock, the societies bishops refused then to marry the 'lady' to her 'beau' so, being the local pagan type person, I married the buggers over a broom. And then got a kiss from the 'bride' and 'groom'. Much hilarity ensued.
Slept better last night and this morning was again crisp and cold.
I drove home and have spent the afternoon washing clothes and bedding, now for a nice long, hot bath.
Photos under cut.
