Loadsa Toads
Mar. 10th, 2012 05:53 pmShopping in town today, Mother's Day cards and chocolates, met
johnrw and
asphodeline aka Max's sekrit admirer. We had coffee in a cute little cafe called Lime (I think), all psychodelic orange/lime and yellow as my favourite coffee bar, Kanya has the builders in. Talked cat flaps and conventions.
Bought a wall cabinet for the hall, been looking for something for a while to put the car keys and defrost spray and hats/gloves in. Now I need to find someone with a drill and a spirit level to hang it for me, I'm not to be entrusted with power tools...
Did my walk through the woods today as tomorrow I need to do some pyrography and clean the house. Astonishing number of toads (I counted over 20) on the move down to the reed beds to spawn, the females carrying their suitors on their backs and many more potential suitors lined up in case they get a chance. Think they were toads, bit big for British frogs, Spooks used to bring frogs in and they were much smaller than these, the females were a good six centimetres long.
Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer on Thursday. I refuse to panic as her body has been trying to kill her on a regular basis since 1963, why should it stop now? Revisit in two weeks to find out her options. So far she has survived giving birth to me (emergency cesarean), nearly giving birth to my sister (should have been cesarean, killed my sister, nearly killed Mum), partial hysterectomy, several heart attacks, severe gall stones, two new hips, diabetes and kidney failure. Fingers crossed for a non-aggressive variant but with her luck, I'm not betting on it.
