Yet more rain!
Jun. 5th, 2011 03:54 pmI went to Mum's yesterday, we drove to a garden centre to buy me a couple of pots, her partner has bought me some hardy fuchsia, now happily getting sodden in the yard. Tiring though, driving 2+ hours there, driving to garden centre, pushing Mum round garden centre, driving 2 hours back plus a trip to Tesco for the weeks groceries.
Today I wanted to go for the four mile walk via the Flashes and the tow path on the canal. Rain started as soon as I left the house and continued on and off for the whole walk. I was wearing the walking sandals, so my feet got a bit wet, but, shrug, they dried again.
Heron and mamma duck, she's down to two ducklings, plus an orchid, either a northern or southern Marsh Orchid, looks like a southern one to me.
Stopped at The Salt Barge in Marston for a pint of beer, charming local. Still retaining it's older clientele but with plenty of Sunday lunch crowd in. Sign at back door with prices for milk and bacon and eggs and other sundries canal boaters might need. I remember fondly spending hours supping beer in pubs like this while on the boats, and that last dash to use a clean, well lit loo at the end of the evening, before going back to the chemical toilet on the boat.
Pint of Blakemere Gold http://www.northernbrewing.co.uk/70002/info.php?p=2&pno=0 and a slight detour on the way back, following another public foot path, I managed to find the path which runs opposite our road and took a photo from the ridge. So near but so far; Witton Brook between me and home, and the only way across is the cat superhighway (the Brunner Mond steam pipe) alas, I am not that foolhardy.
Still raining now, at least I won't need to water the tubs in the back yard today.
Pictures, as always, under the cut.
