May Day Bank Holiday walk
May. 2nd, 2011 01:58 pmLeft the house at 10.30, walked along the main road past the shops then cut across to the Flashes again, walked around the edge of Neumann's Flash, then across Dairy House Meadows by Forge Pool to the Trent and Mersey Canal. Missed the bluebells in Big Wood, as they were on the other side of the canal to the tow path (and I didn't have the camera with me). Walked along the tow path as far as The Salt Barge at Marston, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lion_Salt_Works_-_The_Salt_Barge.jpg, had a quick pint, then back to the canal to walk back home. Regretted not bringing the camera again when mamma duck and her 12 duckings let me walk past them on the path, rather than diving in the canal, I was only a foot or two away from them.
Home for 1pm, would have been 12.30 if not for the beer stop. 4.3 miles according to GMaps handy dandy little calculator. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4474589
A couple of little entrepreneurs (aged about 5 and 7) were selling bedding plants, veg seedlings and the like by the side of Manchester Road, so I bought a geranium and a random plant which had lost it's label for the grand total of 50p.
Just had hummus with red pepper and carrot sticks for lunch, this afternoon, I plan to plant out my new acquisitions, pot up the rosemary, do a few other bits of gardening and vac the encroaching tide of grey fur from the lounge carpet.
Weather remains beautiful, I think it's bracing itself for 13/05, when the heavens will open.
