Spent in good company.

I went down to Cambridge for Strawberry Fair, TWP get together and dinner party with [livejournal.com profile] la_marquise_de_ [livejournal.com profile] miramon [livejournal.com profile] eleyan [livejournal.com profile] maeve_the_red [livejournal.com profile] towerofchaos and Sue Thomason, who I don't think is lj enabled?

The weather was glorious, the Fair was lovely, I slapped on pints of factor 25 and bought a stupid purple hat (no, there are no pictures, I look like a mad purple hippy in it...) so I didn't burn and only glow slightly.

We strolled to the fair, walked round it, drank beer, met the TWP party, walked more, drank more beer,
walked to a local bar, drank Pimms and Mohijtas (sp?); thank you [livejournal.com profile] miramon and got a taxi home.

The marquise himself raised the bar on our dinner party circuit by cooking a superb Japanese dinner with all the trimmings. Truly fabulous, mouthwatering stuff, all the fiddly little side dishes and salad stuff which you don't usually get in a restaurant, and I really need the recipe for the chestnut rice. Sue Thomason had never eaten Japanese before and enjoyed it so much, we had to warn her that she was unlikely to get a meal that good in the UK for under £100 a head.

We were entertained by cats and due to several bouts of positive kama, including [livejournal.com profile] la_marquise_de book contract (I read it years ago, smug, it's fabulous, you will all enjoy it) the atmosphere was wonderful.

Today I met with the remains of the TWP party, plus assorted male hangers on for lunch at The Kingston Arms (which I would recommend heartily) and I drove home.
In order to stay off the M6 for as long as possible, after getting to the top of the A14, I go up the M1 then cut across on the splendid A50 so I only have to go about four junctions and miss Birmingham completely. Which is always good. I loathe the M6.
I stopped at the service station at Donnington Park for a coffee (long weekend, tired now) and discovered that it has a pond and a field and a meadow in its grounds, just right for sitting on the grass on a sunny afternoon. The only sound, the birds and the incessant hum of the M1. It also had a M&S food hall so I got some nice salad for dinner. I must remember this for future use.

Max is happy to see me, looks like he's been good and I sensibly booked tomorrow off work, so I can have a lazy day tomorrow.
